World Youth Skills Day: Turning Skills into Opportunity

What happens after young people develop the skills they need for the future of work?

Today, World Youth Skills Day reminds us that developing skills is only part of the equation. Jamaica has made encouraging progress. Youth unemployment has fallen to 11.7%, below the global average of 13.3%. However, 22.2% of young Jamaicans remain outside employment, education or training (NEET). This is slightly higher than the global average of 20.4%.

Every young person who successfully transitions into education, training or meaningful employment strengthens Jamaica’s future workforce. International evidence shows that countries where more young people are engaged in education, training and work tend to achieve higher productivity, stronger economic performance and higher living standards. Helping young people make that transition is therefore not only a social priority. It is also an economic one.

At Bizect Consulting, we believe evidence should inform action. Our research helps governments, businesses and development partners understand complex challenges, identify emerging opportunities and design practical, evidence-based solutions that create lasting economic and social impact.

On World Youth Skills Day, we reaffirm the importance of creating opportunities that enable Jamaica’s young people to realise their full potential.
